With so many new and used SUVs to choose from, we wanted to help you understand the different options you have before visiting the Auto Center. We have prepared a complete breakdown of the different size SUVs, but here are a few pointers to get you started on your new or used SUV search.
Sport Utility Vehicles come in four different sizes. They are subcompact, compact, midsize and large. Some people would add a full size category as well, but the main difference between large and full size is the towing capacity and we decided to group the largest three row SUVs together. You may also see some manufactures talking about crossovers (or CUVs). Put simply, a CUV is lighter and built on a car chassis while an SUV is heavier and built on a truck chassis. For the purposes of this page we put SUVs and CUVs together and ranked them based on size.
Subcompact and compact SUVs are mostly built on a car chassis. They offer car-like performance with more interior space. Like their car siblings they offer limited second row leg room and minimal towing. The compact SUV segment includes the best selling SUVs on the market and familiar names like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
Midsize SUVs are the favorite choice for many families since they provide the best balance of interior space, cargo room, safety and performance. They come in both two and three row models, though the third row is best suited for children due to size and accessibility, and offer All Wheel Drive (AWD) on nearly every model. There is a lot of variety in the seating and cargo options in this size, so look around once you find the features you want.
The largest SUVs offer three rows, seating for at least seven and the option of truck-like towing capacity. They are also the roomiest vehicles for cargo and several are very capable off road. Again there is a lot of variety in this segment so make sure you know if you want a city biased people mover or an all terrain beast with a maximized cargo capacity before you start looking at models.
The latest offering in the SUV segment isn't an SUV at all. Unibody trucks, like the Hyundai Santa Cruz or Ford Maverick, are built with a continuous body and offer only one bed and cab configuration. They offer a similar cabin feel to an SUV, but with a short bed for tall or especially dirty cargo. If you're thinking this might be a good fit for you come in and see one today.
We know reading about these different options helps you get a sense of what is available, but we encourage you to visit the Tustin Auto Center from anywhere in Orange County to see them for yourself. With a wide variety of new and used SUVs and helpful staff at 11 individual dealerships you're sure to find the right vehicle for your needs. We look forward to seeing you.
